The clock has stuck 12 and the New Year is upon us. You have spent the last week resting, relaxing, and reflecting on the past year and are now energised and focused on the year ahead.
Sadly 25% of people can’t make their resolution last a week and only 8% of people are successful in making their New Year’s resolutions stand the test of time. 2019 is the year to beat the odds and achieve your success with these strategies:
Keep it simple
Be Realistic. Create a goal, not a resolution. A goal something that you are trying to do or achieve. It can be broken down into a plan with key objectives. Don’t make a list of 30+ goals for the year. 1-3 goals is an ideal and achievable.
Outline a plan
Break your goals into small-enough steps. This way you are guaranteed not to get overwhelmed and as you tackle each step your confidence and motivation will grow.
Understand what road blacks could be ahead and develop a plan of how to navigate around them. If you hit a snag take a minute to understand what worked and what didn’t work. Learn from your experiences and adjust your plan if necessary – There may be a more efficient path to your goal.
Talk about it
There is nothing more motivating than being accountable. Discuss your goals with your family, friends etc, so they can encourage and support you on your journey.
Track your progress
It’s impossible to gauge how well you are doing unless you track your progress. Keep a log, be accountable to a friend or use a wall calendar to track your journey.
Set a time frame for each goal and have clear milestones you are working towards. Take a moment to acknowledge your success as you reach each milestone – this will motivate you to continue on your journey. The more you monitor your performance, the more likely you are to achieve your goals.
